Today I re-visited the site to hone in on anything that I felt like I hadn’t fully understood, explored or missed out on from my site visit the week before, so that I may have as many analytical notes, ideas and drawings. I began by taking more photos of texture, which I already had graphite markings for and took more photos of the surrounding site. I continued by taking note of the wind direction, sun path, noises and their sources, parking, pedestrian flow and access points into the building in order to make a second site map, with more information to further understand, not just the building, but also the surrounding site.

I continued inside the ‘Giggling Squid’ restaurant, which is the part of the building that the exhibition will be located at. Seeing a different interpretation of the design for this space gave me some inspiration and useful ideas that I can now apply to my own envisioned designs. For instance the pillar in the centre of the restaurant had been ignored when the space was previously a fish and ships bar, but now it had been made a feature by putting up a beautiful white wooden canopy around it. The art gallery was very raw, plain and white which is very striking when you compare it to the warm, inviting and colourful interior of the restaurant. Visiting different parts of the Vulcan building has opened up my mind to exploring different design styles and how I can work with existing spaces. I now need to do research on the history of the site and make a timeline on the Vulcan building.
