Today we begun by finishing off the 1:50 Draft concept model we had begun in the second week of the project. We cut out windows and added the mezzanine to give us a better understanding of how much existing space we had to work with. After this we added different types of fabrics on the windows and I took pictures while playing around with angles and sources of light, I was aiming to explore how the shadows moved around space. We included the original canopy idea and the fabric covered windows that then inspired the design for the 'For Now: Unexplained' part of the exhibition.

In continuation we then made a 1:10 fine model of one of the display units in the exhibition, we chose to showcase one from the 'For Now: Unexplained' showroom as it the main attraction of our exhibition. We made the main structure from cardboard, used toothpicks for the display stand to simulate bamboo, and then used black card to create the negative dark space around the outfit. Finally velvet was used to simulate the draping fabric and adorn the mannequin with the outfit that would be displayed.

The next task I took on today was refining our floor plans plans, I kept printing out A3 copies and annotating them while I discussed with the group what we should change. I would then go onto AutoCad and making new iterations. By printing out the plans at A3 we were able to see them more closely in more detail and spot any mistakes. We realised that at first there was too much detail, then we changed the wall around the 'For Now: Unexplained' Collection to an actual curtain, in order to minimise costs and material use. After we got rid of any dead space around the exhibition, refined wall thicknesses, line-weights and added more detail to the window and door frames as well as the disabled lift. It was very informative and I learnt a lot about floor plan design, my annotations may not make any sense to everyone but they made sense to me and helped me have a clear and refined outcome.

For the rest of the studio time I designed what the gift shop and cafe would look like. For the Cafe I knew the bar area would be made of stainless steel, but what about the seating? At first I wanted to do booth seating to maximise customer capacity, but I then remembered one of the three words we had come up with at the start to describe Reed, "transcending." Booths would feel too restrictive so instead I decided I will have regular tables and chairs around the cafe, that way it will feel more like a home kitchen linking back to the design aim of making domestic spaces. The furniture style of the table and chair will be inspired by this beautiful dining set in Reed's sitting room and the gift shop will be a dark green colour inspired by the hallway colour in his home. Nia then found colour samples of what we wanted for the spaces, which really grounded our ideas for the design of these last spaces. I am very happy with the outcome of today's work. I will now begin learning how to use Sketchup and Lumion.
